Loss
Losing something always creates a void in your life, and anyone who has owned a pet knows well how empty their favourite spots feel, long after they are gone. You look into the corner expecting them to still be there, and even swear you saw them out of the corner of your eye a second ago, and the empty spot just reminds you of how fleeting life can be. I wanted to remember Simba’s favourite spot as it was when he was there. It’s made of simple cardboard, paint, and hot glue, a little felt for the figurine and a cut from the extra fabric under the actual chair for the replica. When I went to cut the fabric from the chair, a chair given to my grandmother on her wedding day, I noticed the entire underside was coated in his hair. The sort of thing that used to gross me out now a welcome reminder that he did, in fact, exist, and leave his imprint on this world.
