The Double Rainbow Miniature/Diorama was originally just a way of expressing my love and gratitude for a space that held me during some tough times. This place was long left empty, and many of us in the community hoped it would become some kind of gathering space, useful to the residences who lived in the roads stretching out from this unique crossroads. The building itself has become many things but perhaps the most dedicated fans belong to Kims Double Rainbow Cafe. On any given day if you enter the cozy little corner you will be greeted by the faces of familiar regulars. Everyone has a story and everyone has a seat they prefer.

I made the miniature while stuck at home due to health issues, and reminisced on all the warm feelings one can get from a place like this. I used mostly trash and recycling from my own home and a lot of hot glue and paint. It took a few months as I worked on it slowly, a bit at a time. One day I would do the tables and chairs, the next I would work on the windows, another I’d start crafting the tiny drinks. Much how I watched Kim put the cafe together in the first place.

It has lived at the cafe now for a few years, enjoyed and added on to, evolving within it’s own macrocosm.
