Block Zine III
Saint Patrick’s Ward
Block zine III cover, Saint Patricks Ward Back cover featuring the leopard mural in the walkway of 83 Neeve Street
Double Rainbow Cafe and The Mural Building at Arthur and Oliver Fun fact, the cube balancing on the corner of The Mural Building was originally a concrete die, a once common decorative sculpture
Alice Street Church, a neon landmark, and it's counterpart, The Palace on Alice, a beloved and ever changing institution in the Ward. The Palace on Alice, owned by Mike Silvestro, has also gone by Crack Corner and For the Good of the Hood, Alice Street Petting Zoo, and even had a sign up saying Bella’s Brothel Opening Soon, none of which truly existed outside our imaginations.
Bevs on Beverly, which is owned and operated by Jenna, partner of my old boss Richard of Escarpment labs, which used to inhabit this space. Fun fact, I delivered my one month's notice to Escarpment in this space while it was transitioning to the bar. Lost Aviator is a coffee shop started by Steve Zago and Adam Wright, two commercial airline pilots, and kept me and much of my team caffeinated (and sane with walks) when I worked at the 8 Smith Escarpment Labs location.
Spring Mill Distillery, owned by the beloved John Sleeman and Sons (one of the nicest families in Guelph), built on history and good cocktails, Try the Spring and Tonic or The Dellemere if you pop in for a cozy drink by the fire, and do me a favour and request they bring back the Sundial. and The Italian Canadian Club, where I voted in many a major election, and host to many a fun party or dinner.
100 Steps, the best workout in all the ward (and a decent view to reward your efforts), and Angelinos, the best place in town for a quick lunch sandwich or cannoli, with the punniest signs around.
